One reason I like to call libraries 'public welfare book stores'. For cheapskates who will not buy the d*mn book themselves.

Good thing I am an active reader and library user . . .or I might be angry about supporting the 'reading habit' of others...

Well, I caught a nap, so now I can stay up and reserve books at the library, and shop on-line. Stephanie Plum, UK cop murder mysteries, and adirondack chairs. Wee hee!

Oh, I'll still buy the book, but I want to wait until the paperback comes out. And not just because I'm cheap, but I just hate reading hardcover books.

Tom, maybe you should call it the local Environmentally Responsible Book Store Wink

Fewer books need to be printed if people share, which means fewer trees need to be killed. In addition, being thrifty is a good old-fashioned American value Wink

I'm rather offended by this statement.

I'm glad Amy put it into perspective.

I completely agree. I can't even begin to think of the number of books I currently own & have owned in the past. While I always try to donate them somewhere when I do actually get rid of them (which is VERY infrequent), I can't say the same for everybody else.

emeleel Wrote:[Image: wtf.gif] That's a new one on me. Any particular reason?

I don't know, I just don't like hardcovers. I never really have. Plus I really hate having part of a series in paperback (because I started the series late) & the rest in hardcover. But it's even more than that, I just really don't like physically reading a hardcover book. I absolutely detest the paper jackets & always take them off as soon as I get a book. Even when I borrow a book, I take it off right away so I don't have to worry about it, then put it back on when I give it back to whomever I borrowed it from. Unfortunately I can't do this with library books though. And I'm not one of those people who roll over half the book (cover & all, you know what I mean?), so it's not even that. I'm just weird, I guess. Big Grin

As for me I prefer to read hardcover books because they look so nice and it seems that you are holding in your hans a little treasure especially when the cover is of high quality and with beautiful illustrations!
