I'm heading to North Carolina this afternoon, visiting Mark who is in class there for two weeks. While I'm down there, we are going to go to Camp LeJeune to see his son. I'm really excited about this, and so are my Horsemen.

Yesterday I made a big batch of cookies for his son, ably assisted by #4. This morning, I woke up to see #4 hovering over me, inches from my face. He wanted to make another batch of cookies, because he is so excited to be sending cookies to a real live Marine. So, I got up early and we went downstairs to make his special Snickerdoodle recipe.

I helped him to get set up, supervised as he made the dough (that means I didn't let him feed enough to Libby to give her diarrhea this time) and then after he set up the dough and the little bowl of cinnamon and sugar, I went into the living room to have my tea.

#2 came wandering downstairs a few minutes later. He was half asleep. However, just as he walked into the living room, he heard #4's plaintive call for help:

"Mama, no matter how gently I touch my balls, either they fall into pieces or they get all sticky! I need help!".

#2 literally collapsed in laughter. #4 came running in, glared at me and told me I was mean for sneaking in a witness to his distress. Actual quote. At which point I nearly collapsed, too.


The cookies are safely checked in my luggage. I have spoken to the boys on the phone, and #4 is speaking to me again. This ought to be a fun weekend. Made even better, of course, by a new Horsemen story and one more chance to make time to bake a batch of cookies with one of my little guys.

Oh my. That is a riot. #2 not knowing what was happening really had to be rolling on the floor! I know I would have been.

Some former coworkers befriended the owner of the Mrs Fields store at the mall. The coworkers were having heart shape big cookies made for Valentines day for their sweethearts. They were having messages written on the cake in frosting.

Manager: What should my cake say?
Me: I love you?
Manager: Not clever enough.
Assistant manager (in front of customers, including children): Put "EAT ME!"
Manager: (nervous laughter)
Assistant Manager: What? It's clever, a cookie that says "EAT ME!"
Me: I don't think you mean it the way people are taking it...
Assistant manager: I don't get it, I think it's cute!

I'm not sure if anyone ever did explain to her why she shouldn't have been saying that. I'm not sure why a 40 yr old woman would need that explained...

Gotta love boys.
