How unhappy would you be (or happy, either one) if EA closed? The quietness of the board lately has me questioning the value of keeping it operational. It is not a time or money drain. Neither are prohibitive. But, I do wonder if it's worth keeping up given the tiny size of the active, posting community.

I sure missed it yesterday when it was gone. Sometimes the information here is valuable. Don't boards go through high and low phases?

So my input is that it stays!

I keep various aspects of my life siloed - there are things I talk about here I don't talk about on Facebook, or LinkedIn, or Twitter, and I would miss having a forum for these things.

I also find this is a better place to have detailed discussions and debates than other social media - when there is something I really want to talk about in depth, this is the place I turn to.

Me too. I'd be sad if it closed. I've been playing on FB because it's new to me, but this is the board that offers the most in real attachment. Maybe it will pick up as the snows soon begin to fly Smile

If it's not a problem, I'd love to see it stay, too. Mostly I'll repeat what MJ said. Big Grin Some things can be talked about here, especially in the private forums if needed, that can't/shouldn't be discussed with people in other places like FB. And especially MJ's second point - other places are for quickie points and then everyone's on to the next thing. Here we can hash things out, get lots of detailed viewpoints, argue constructively, etc.

I do think things have quieted down some since so many people have joined FB, but it totally lacks the depth of EA. Plus there are some of us who don't hang out at other places and I would really miss those friends.

Oh, and I'd miss having a place that's all "my own" now that hubby has joined FB!

Yeah...another good point. FB kinds of places are very public and your friends and relatives belong. Here I can whine about school and home Big Grin and no one that it would pertain to is reading it. And, God but you all give good advice and I value it because it's coming from a variety of viewpoints, cultures, religions, and educational experiences. I don't know how many times (especially for techie things) I count on bringing it here to get a good answer.

I would truly miss this place if it went away. I don't post as much as some other folks, but I'm on here nearly every day to keep up with my EA buds.

Oh, and what MJ said, too. Most of my family is on FB as are most of my co-workers. Some of those people (both groups) drive me crazy.

Maybe we should each think about ONE person we'd like to consider inviting to the board.

I think it's obvious that those of us who log in here daily must still find value in it or we'd stop doing so. I don't find value in Twitter, for example, so I don't bother to go there. I do (almost daily) come on EA because I do value it.

If you're bored, it's a time suck, or financial drain, I can understand. But would I miss it, yeah, I would.

Man, I thought it had gone away already and I was sad. I'm new here, but I love coming here. I vote for keeping it going. But, I understand if you can't. I don't like Facebook or MySpace (is it still going?). Those types of sites are not my cup o' tea.

I would be really sad if EA disappeared. I don't have a lot to say, but I really enjoy reading what is on everyone's mind. I have had a chance to get to know some really amazing people thanks to this board and would hate to lose that.

I was very twitchy yesterday without my EA fix Big Grin but I didn't want to bug Amy. I was just about to break and give in this morning, though. Big Grin

I don't have FB..or Twitter...or anything else. I can't always get here everyday....but I do enjoy checking in. It does seem quieter than in days gone by....and at times disconnected...but I for one would miss it. I think the bonds on this site are unique...and I would not have a way to check on everyone.

Maybe we all should try to check in and post regularly???

Listening to Clay Shirky talk about self-assembled groups that display generosity - I keep thinking back to us and EAForums. Check it out (24 minutes but he's a great speaker).

RE: I Need Your Input
I've been thinking on ways to shake things up around here and I've come to the conclusion that this place needs more members, especially guys.

So I have a suggestion that may help bring men in here.

I'm going to ask that for the next two weeks all of the women members post naked. (O.K., for all of you prudes fishnet stockings and 5 inch spike heels are acceptable.)

It also wouldn't hurt if some of you changed your screen names to stuff like Bubbles or Boom Boom.

Then you promise the guys free beer and a massage for every hundred posts.

So now you have about fifty guys posting feverishly away every day looking for the big payoff. A hundred posts...wow...only 80 to go...damn! only 65 more...and so on. Then have Amy go in and screw up their post counts so they just can't quite ever get there. Most won't even notice. Permanent members!

Listen. It may seem underhanded, but guys always want to get screwed...so screw 'em.

For the greater glory of EA!!!

I drop in and out a lot - mostly out lately, I'm afraid - but I second what everyone else has said. There are things I just can't talk about anywhere else. So I'm delighted that you've gone ahead with the changes and the site is safe and sound.

Rich, you definitely don't want to see me in fishnets and spike heels. My soon-to-be-effective Medicare probably won't cover damages I'd suffer tottering around in 'em.

Don't sell yourself short, Margaret. I'm sure you'd look terrific.

Although I could understand being a little intimidated knowing that you'd be up against the likes of Slick.

He does look quite fetching in heels.
