RE: Office Parties
This one's for our members (they're sort of our clients) and State and City people we work with a lot. Next week is the staff holiday luncheon in a restaurant - this one is in our office, and the first year everyone ended up in my office for some reason, sitting on my credenza and file cabinet and desk.

Possibly the only good thing about being unemployed is not having to suffer through the holiday party.

RE: Office Parties
Staff luncheon today. Italian food, wine, secret santas... now back at work trying not to send intoxicated IM's.

RE: Office Parties
I wanna work with MJ.

Today we had our holiday party. I baked chocolate chip cookes, almond craisin butter cookies, and gingerbread truffles. I had my secret santa gift, and my cards for everyone. My arms were all loaded up as I was leaving the house and heard my phone ring.

Boss: So-and-so called out. Can you fill in as a receptionist for a couple hours at [another office].
Me: Ok.
Boss: I'll try to get someone over there as soon as possible to relieve you.
Me (after hanging up the phone): @$#%!!!

Not upset with my boss, not upset with the sick coworkers, but very sad to be missing my party. I ate no food this morning knowing that people were bringing in quiche and bagels, and other breakfast foods. I had no lunch with me, and no money for lunch.

I did finally run away from the other office and made it to my office just before they finished lunch (thank god). I felt like I would pass out at that point I was so hungry. But at least I finally got some food (there was plenty) and got to participate in secret santa and dessert.

Boss never got to come up to our party. She was busy filling in for too many people. We made sure she had goodies down where she was.

RE: Office Parties
Honestly company holiday parties are a death trap. Every year there's someone at my company who forgets that it's work, not fun, and they get drunk and do/say something stupid.
Usually, they're not around much longer, whether from embarrassment, social ostracism, or outright firing.
