I turned it on CNN. I don't want to see it, but I fine it so horrifying that I have to follow it.
I hope it's much ado about nothing

I have CNN on too. I'm praying it's just a waste of coverage.

The tv said there might be some damage in Ventura California. Anyone hear anything about that?

CNN earlier said that the warnings are as far out as Russia and Japan, and that Alaska and parts of Cali are under advisory.

The damage in Chile from the earthquake is bad too.

Luckily, Chile has a history of earthquakes so they have the infrastructure to minimize the damage - building standards, building inspectors, etc. - all the things Haiti didn't have.

I heard that, but have not been able to find out anything. I used to live in Ventura.

RE: Live Streaming the Hawaii Tsunami
Thankfully I heard that the wave had dissipated before it hit any low-lying coastal areas in the Pacific. And thankfully, because building codes were stricter and housing is better built, the expected loss of life is supposed to be much, much lower than it was in Haiti. The third blessing in this disaster was that the epicenter, apparently, was offshore, and a distance from populated areas.

Still, there will be lots of rebuilding to do, and lots of suffering. When will it end?

my mom goes to services with an older woman who is from Chile, she got a phone call from a man she hasn't spoken to in 10 years letting her know he spoke to his daughter who spoke to my mom's friend's neice and that she-the neice- was okay-so far, everyone seems to have survived, and been able to pass messages on to other relatives via a massive grapevine type effort Smile
