And after church she almost got away from me when we were starting her IV. Yay, I'm so glad she's feeling better

Yay Princess! Before you know it she'll be all better (then you'll have to make sure she doesn't draw blood!)

when meowlth was ill and wouldn't eat or drink-I took one of those siringes(sp???) you give kids antibiotics with-wrapped him in a towel and forced the water in-I put baby food(lamb) on his feet and he'd lick it off... after about 24 hours he was better but he scared the heck out of me.

That's good to hear that she's getting better!

Latest tests show her kidney function is MUCH better, but her potassium is still low. Still the IV, still the supplement powder, still the Baytril for another week, and now 1.5 tablets of Tamil K given twice a day instead of just .5 tablet once a day. More chance for her to bite me, hooray!

How long do you have to continue therapy? Is it a lifetime maintenance thing, or when they stabilize are you going to be able to wean her off the meds?

Glad she's continuing to improve.

It comes down to figuring out if it was a nasty kidney infection or if she has actual kidney disease. If it's kidney disease, there will be lifetime maintenance but hopefully the IV won't be every day.

Very good news. So glad she's improving!

She is doing so much better that even with the fluids only every other day, she gets a big obvious "pillow" of fluid under her skin when we're done with her IV treatment.

She is doing so much better that she is fighting with the kitten and swatting at Dino (who doesn't really swat back so it's not really fighting).

She is doing so much better that she is eating like a friggin' pig all day.

She is doing so much better than even with the elizabethan collar around her head, she tries to bite us when we give her the IV, squirms and hisses and growls like crazy during the process, and generally puts us in fear of our lives when it's IV time.

Update:

Still have to do the IV every other day. It's harder to do now that she's hydrated, the skin isn't as loose and she tenses up and fights.

She still has elevated white blood cells, more Baytril. Still takes the powder in her food and the Tumil-K ground up in her food too.

I'm thinking it is Not a Good Thing that the vet comes in the room and greets her with "And how is Miss Cranky-Pants today?" but the vet is smiling when she says it. Of course give me $2,000 and I'd be smiling at the little bitch-cat too.

Delightfully, vet bills in In are lower than those in Fl.

Well, yeah. There's my second son, whom we purchased for $10.

A couple of thousand in vet bills later, he's still a "worthless dog" according to my husband (as he pets the dog on the head).

Oh, and we don't know if she has a urinary tract infection. What Hubby thought was antibiotics is actually medication for her high blood pressure. Now I ask you, how the hell do you tell if a cat has high blood pressure? are there little teeny cuffs? and WTH gives a cat high blood pressure? all those salty potato chips? stress from that daily commute to work?

ROFL! That cat looks just like Miss Poe, claws and all. She removed a small bit of the vet's face along with a good inch of flesh from his arm when I took her in the first time. I told himhow adorable and sweet she was, he leaned in for a cuddle and she chomped, gouged and raked him.

When Rex was really sick last year and they had to draw blood, I had to turn away, but not before seeing them do an IV-like thing in his arm, just like a human. So maybe they did use an itty bitty cuff on her!

oh great. once blood pressure is normalized she'll have to go back every 3 months. awesome.

Aaaaaaand we're going back today. Hubby thinks Princess has been acting a little off for the past couple days (well, I guess HE can tell if she's off in a different way than usual) and this morning she wouldn't eat (totally unlike her). Her eyes look glassy and she seems sort of lethargic. Sigh.

Oh, I hope it is nothing serious.

Looks like it's her kidneys again. Vet was not talking extraordinary measures this time though. We'll get blood work results later today or tomorrow. She's youngish (8 or 9) but had a hard life for the first few years, and her high blood pressure is making her go blind too. I'm OK with it but Hubby will be devastated. He's already called me three times from work.

I hope it's not as bad as you're anticipating!
